Is it possible to achieve absolute privacy in the city by opening the facade to the outside?
Water sculpts stone. The atrium brings life together.
The Challenge
How can the privacy of residents in a large apartment building in Abuja be guaranteed without closing it off from the surroundings or resorting to blank facades that block light and ventilation? Furthermore, it was necessary to break the monotony and horizontality created by traditional balconies.
The Impact Experience
The facade is conceived as a living, three-dimensional filter. We integrated vegetation into the design, alternating horizontal and vertical planters to blur the interior-exterior barrier and allow the local flora to act as a natural screen.
The curved edges add volume to the exterior panel and create a dynamic facade that responds to the interior use. The spacious balconies become an extension of the living space, and in the common areas, operable enclosures create a fluid, continuous, and shaded area: an urban oasis of coolness and privacy.
How does the experience change?
Residents gain a private outdoor oasis, an additional room in the house, protected from the sun and prying eyes.
