Can an architecture surrender to the wind and defend itself against the sun in order to bring forth life?

The wind blows through the blocks. The shade protects life.

The Challenge

Facing the great Gishiri mountain, in a landscape of sun, red earth and invisible streams, the commission was to create a luxury residential ecosystem that does not compete with the climate, but rather allies itself with it, meeting the demanding standards of the EDGE Advanced certification.

The Impact Experience

Two parallel blocks, each 14 meters wide, extend across the site, ensuring that each dwelling receives light and cross-ventilation from north to south. The facade rotates 20 degrees in a sawtooth pattern that deflects direct sunlight from the east and west, and captures the landscape through large bay windows. In the center, a 15-meter gap connects the sky with the common areas in a stepped descent towards cooler air.

On the lower level, large circular perforations in the concrete allow palm trees to grow through the podium in search of sunlight. The material palette combines textured stone in sandy tones, glazed green ceramic that flows like water along walls and railings, natural wood in windows and doors, and green anodized metal that casts shadows on the terraces. On the ground floor, the curves and the murmur of the fountains guide you toward tranquility.

How does the experience change?

Luxury ceases to be about appearance and becomes the privilege of breathing under the shade of a living, fresh and ventilated ecosystem.

"We rotated the facade 20 degrees to avoid the sun and narrowed the building to capture the Abuja breeze. Oasis is a living, breathing ecosystem facing Gishiri Mountain."

Can the industrial heritage of the past solve the loneliness of the future?

The factory is giving up the space. Coliving cures loneliness.

The Challenge

Eibar faces a double challenge: the loss of its historic industrial activity, which leaves large urban voids, and the aging and isolation of its population. How can the rehabilitation of a former factory revitalize a city socially and economically and open up new community opportunities?

The Impact Experience

For the iconic AIBE factory, we propose three urban acupuncture strategies: generating territorial movement by decentralizing public facilities; breaking down the barrier between the urban and the natural with an extensive park of sports facilities and gardens that promote self-sufficiency; and, at the heart, an intergenerational public housing (coliving) that mitigates the loneliness of the elderly.

The former factory space is being transformed into a vibrant community where young and old share daily life. The industrial shell is not only preserved: it is once again filled with life.

"We rehabilitated an old factory into an intergenerational coliving space to combat loneliness by uniting the daily lives of young and old in a natural environment."

How does the experience change?

It goes from industrial abandonment to a mutual support ecosystem that socially revitalizes a city.
